In my opinion, an egg could poosibly be the best breakfast food ever. Well bacon would technically be the greatest breakfst food ever, but that's a given. But for real, who ever decided that eggs and bacon should be labeled as breakfast food? Why didn't they choose to eat eggs for lunch or for dinner?
For whatever reason they choose breakfast, I am glad, but I could eat eggs any time of the day. Call me Ron Swanson, but I love breakfast food. I have eggs multiple times a day sometimes. Without fail though, I have 3-4 whole eggs every single morning.....yes, whole eggs. (Gasp!)
Eggs have gotten a bad rap over the years because of the cholesterol content in the yolks. So people have resorted to eating only egg whites. While this is not neccesarily a bad practice, they are missing out on valuable vitamins, minerals, and healthy fats. And contrary to popular belief, the cholesterol in the egg yolk will not harm you.
Your body has a set amount of cholesterol it produces every day - typically between 1-2 grams (which is up to 10x more than is found in an egg). When you ingest cholesterol through your diet, your body simply produces less of it and when you eat less cholesterol, your body produces more of it. Your body wants to reach that set amount every day, regardless of if you ingest it or not (proven by studies) Your set amount of cholesterol is largely determined by genetics, exercise habits, and stress levels.
Whole eggs do not only contain a good dose of protein , but are also full of healthy omega-3 fatty acids and deliver many vitamins and minerals — B6, B12, D, riboflavin, folate, and choline. Eggs yolks are one of the healthier fats you can eat (remember - you need fat in your diet). So next time you are making eggs, eat the whole egg!
*If you have a history of high cholesterol, you should consult your doctor about the appropriate of amount of cholesterol you can ingest in a day.
Till next time,
